Oil filter bursting

Hi, I bought a Yamaha F250 2006 model that hasn’t run for a while. Managed to get it started but it keeps bursting oil filers almost immediately after ignition. I have bursted 3 filters in a row. They literally pop and then the seal gives up. I put them properly. I use genuine Yamaha filters and oil. Any clue??? Thanks

Welcome aboard.

Is the crankcase over filled by any chance?

No reason to think so, drained all oil and replaced with new oil spot on to the mark. Is there an oil pressure release valve of some sort somewhere that could fail???

Pressure relief valve is integral to the oil pump.

I would plumb a mechanical pressure gauge into the system to see what the actual pressure is with the motor at an idle. If you can. The filter may fail before you can get a reading.

Is it possible someone had the power head off? An improper install could keep oil from getting back to the sump, pump keeps pumping, filter blows as there is nowhere for oil to go.

Is it extremely cold where you are and what oil is in it ? Even so...the filter bypass (if it has one) should stop this.

Thanks, no I am in the tropics, I use yamahalube 10w40. I was told that the problem may come from oil pressure release valve not functioning/stuck because engine sat too long without running and the valve gets stuck due to condensation. I am keen to check that but my problem is where is this valve located??? I have checked the 2 oil control valves on the top part of the engine and they looked fine.

You did make sure a second oil filter gasket is not stuck to the filter housing on the block. Two gaskets will not hold oil pressure. Yes - I know! But I've seen this little tidbit overlooked more than once.
