I assume that you do not have a remote filter, cause it would jump right out at you as soon as you opened the hatch. This means that it will be in the standard location for a small block - bottom, left, rear.

If you are going to be doing any of your own work, your next purchase needs to be REAL mercruiser service manuals for your engine and drive. NO, a clymers or seloc is not good enough.

thanks... I'm probably going to get it serviced initially but in the future I'd like to consider doing my own oil change...

thanks for the advice...

There is one helluva lot more to do to a boat than an oil and oil filter change. You have a new boat. i'm sure it came with an owners manual. It will give you the basic things that really need to be checked, changed, and tended to if you want your boat to last longer than one or two seasons. Read it, also get the proper OEM manuals for your engine and drive. Post your engine serial numbers and I can help you with the part numbers of the manuals you need.

I'm aware of all the maintenance and stuff that needs done...

I have one of those SELOC manuals but you say it's not good enough?

I'm likely to not have time and will end up getting a dealer to do the routine maintenance... I just couldn't visually see the oil filter which made me curious...

thanks for all your help though... I'll look up the serial number and post later

The oil filter is next to the oil pan on the port side at the back of the block.
Your engine probably isn't even listed in a Seloc manual yet. It takes the aftermarket manual people time to look at the OEM manual and make the proper misprints and mistakes.
