Re: oil filter

Well if there is room use a large pair of channel locks (works every time), Or if this is not applicable punch a hole throuhg the end and try the screw driver through the body of the filter method, Or try using a piece of 80 grit sand paper wrapped aroung the filter body and try it by hand agian!. Good luck and hope this helps

Have used an air chisel in the past to get them off. mostly were the original oil filter that wouldn't move.

Re: oil filter

Only use the screwdriver method as a last resort.

If you can't get it off with the filter wrench or channel locks all sticking a screwdriver in it is gonna do it make a mess.

If it gets too bad you will have to do what a guy did to get mine off which was to use a chiseel and hammer and hit the base to get it to start turning.

Re: oil filter

For the really stuck ones, try gripping the filter nearest the base as you can.
I have one of the channel lock style filter removers- adjusts like a channel lock but jaws curve to fit filter, and have some teeth to get a better grip. But you can tear the cannister away when you apply a lot of force. Gripping near the base minimizes that since you have the bottom plate to grab.

Re: oil filter

I was just at pep boys about an hour ago and by the oil they had these different tools to get stuck or crushed filters off.

I wish I would have saw these before when mine was stuck. I had asked them and advanced and they said they didn't have anything.

One tool is like a three pronged claw that you attach to a socket wrench or cresent wrench and it tightens when you twist it to grab what's left of the filter.

The other one also attached to a socket or crescent wrench but this one had adjustable teeth on it that slide into the holes on the vase to turn it. That's how my filter was. All of the filter was off except for the base. The part that has the threads hole in the center and little holes around it. This thing would have worked perfect.
