Ok , without naming brands , cos then it all gets a bit silly. Could somebody explain what the flashpoint of a 2 stroke oil is about. Down here in NZ we are somewhat restricted in products we can buy. We have the major OEM stuff and only one other alternative. The alternative has a flashpoint of 65deg C and a Japanese OEM product at 69 degC. I realise that there are various reasons for different flashpoints but does this mean that if you have incomplete combustion and oil residue on your plugs , you must be running close to the flashpoint temp ? Does flashpoint temp indicate the temp at which the oil burns completely ?. Not sure about this as I put a match to some and I couldnt get it to burn ??

Re: Oil flashpoint

hello
the flash points and flame points are different. the flash point means there is enough volitale vapors to ignite with an ignition source at the flash temperature. the flame point means its hot enough to ignite.
I think the flash point of rubbing alchohol is around 40* F. doesnt mean that if you open the bottle at 70* it will flame on ya just means that the liquid is vaporizing and now you have volitile vapors.
