I promise, I did use the search function for this one, I imagine its a dead horse, but I didnt find much.

For my '84 volvo 270 outdrive, what oil should I use? Ive heard 80/90 and Ive also heard 30 weight elsewhere on the net. Seems to be a foggy issue.

The dip stick is in the top somewhere?!? remove it to fill?>

Re: Oil for outdrive, 270

Oil for a single prop is 30wt oil. Oil for a Duoprop drive is the gl-5 80-90 synthetic. Unlike a mercruiser, the top drive is connected tot he lower drive and the oil flows from one to another. There are a few places to fill. The oil dipstick is the slotted screw on the very top of the drive. When you look at the 4 bolts holding that same plate on, you will notice one that is different. This one is a fill hole. I usually take the dipstick out and used the fill hole on top. There is also one under the shift cover plate.

Up top of this forum there is a adults only section that has manuals for your outdrive.

have fun
