I just got my boat out for the first time this week, I have a 1987 90HP 3 cylinder Merc. I noticed when I trailered back home after running it that gas had ran out of the air intake box and collected down in the transom trough. The bottom of the engine was also covered with oil.
I pulled the air intake cover off and couldn't tell if one of the carbs was spilling gas, but i did see a little gas in the small brass tube in the #3 carb venturi, this may be the culprit, the other two were dry. Last year I cleaned the carbs and put in new gaskets and needle valves. The engine runs super good and I didn't notice it doing this last summer.
Is it possible that one of the carb needle valves isn't holding and when I raise the engine to transport position gas could be running out of the carb? How do I determine if this is the problem.
I repaired the gasket so the gas will at least stay in the air intake.
