Just took off my vertical drive (1995 5.0 OMC Cobra) and the drive shaft bellows had a significant amount of gear lube in it. Removed the pinion carrier to check the seal and seal looked fine. Talked to a local boat mechanic who said if there was no water in the gear lube (There wasn't)then put it back in run it for a few hours and pull the drive again to check for oil. Is there anywhere else but the carrier seal that would allow the oil in ? Could it be from overfilling it at one time ?
Thanks
