Oil In Carbs

I have a 1988 200 GT Johnson and after the engine sits for a week or so the carbs completely fill with oil. It is still using the VRO and NOT premix. I know that the fuel will evaporate leaving the oil behind but this is so much oil that the engine will not start until the carbs have been drained and refilled with fuel. Is this a VRO issue or is the oil tank becoming pressurized and bypassing a check valve? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Re: Oil In Carbs

Some boaters have a habit of running the engine out of fuel when finished for the day which results in that problem. I assume you're not doing that. I also assume that the oil tank is not higher than the engine.

The vent of the oil tank cap is faulty, building up pressure due to heat, forcing oil to the carburetors.

As Joe said check the vent on the oil tank, they can build up pressure if bad. If the tank is out of the weather you may want to loosen the cap the next time you leave it sit and see what happens.
