Now you need to determine if it's the dash gauge, the sending unit, the wiring or a combination of all three.

Keep in mind your consumption could be as high as 20 gallons/hr at WOT.

Yeah getting that figured out is next on the agenda. We only went out for about 4 hours. Most of it was trolling around at about 1/4 throttle. I took it up to fill throttle only once for about 2 minutes just to see what shes got.

If the sending unit is the problem, are they universal or do I need to measure the height of the tank?

Get the fuel gauge working. Check the fuel sender for a grounding/continuity issue. If you do need to replace it, you will need to know your tank depth. Senders are made to fit a range of tank depths and you need to know where yours is.

I just go by my fuel gauge. When going by the gauge, I know about how much fuel it will take before it's full. I always add in my oil first so the pumping of the gas into the tank mixes everything. If I think I'll fit about 15 gallons into the tank, I'll dump in enough oil for 12 gallons, add the fuel, then key on to recheck my fuel gauge before adding a little more oil and the remaining few gallons. I've never over filled it by doing it this way. And by adding the oil first, I know it's there so worst case scenario the tank is full and I'm slightly over rich on oil.

2.6 ounces of oil per gallon.

Fill your tank, add the oil, flush the filler hose with a quart of gas, done.

It will mix, it will not settle, it will not float on the top, it MUST mix to be tcw3 rated.


Mercury had a "magic inline oil mixer" that was called the "auto-blend".

It worked quite well in my opinion.
But could be messy, and took up space in the boat.
