I bought a 225 with oil injection. The previous owner had it set up with an external oil tank. I'm not using the external tank. Do I need to run a line from the intake manifold to pressurize the engine mounted tank in the same manner the external tnk is pressurized and/or does the tank need to be vented.

Re: oil injection help

My understanding of the system is that the crankcase pressure is used to push oil from the external tank up to the engine tank.

Why would you not use the external tank?
The engine tank on my 225 (96 Mariner) only holds enough oil for about 30 minutes if running if memory serves.
The external tank holds 3 gallons. Enough for 150 gallons of fuel more or less...

I just dont have anywhere to put it. It doesnt fit anywhere that isnt taken up by something already. Real estate is at somewhat of a premium here . The reserve tank holds 2 quarts of oil which is a good two tankfulls of gas in my boat.

I'm not really sure if anything needs to be capped or bypassed if you don't use the external tank.

Maybe someone more knowledgeable will comment.
I think the motor tank is already vented.
On my '96 there are check valves that prevent pulling a vacuum or over pressure on the motor tank.

225 is a lot of motor for that little thing.....it must fly!
12 gallon tanks would be no fun on my boat....I've run through 25 gallons in a day, easily.

I have 2 44 gallon tanks on my boat so I could go 3 tanks before filling the oil tank, but I top off every time I clean the baot because I'm just a little paranoid about running out even though I carry at least 2 gallons of oil on the boat all the time.

I have a 175 and the oil tank is only good for 30 minutes. once the level drop in the tank just a small amount the oil alram sounds.

doulbe check to be sure your oil tank is good for 2 tanks of fuel. You will be running without an alarm?
Consider premixing fuel and oil. Then you can chuck the oil tank
Just hate to see a good motor run without oil.

Its a 2 quart tank . Good for 24 gallons at 50:1. I have a 12 gallon gas tank. Not that hard to remember to top the tank off when I fill the gas.
