Oil Injection Mishap

I have a 2000 150 Mercury Saltwater outboard with oil injection. Yesterday while heading out to sea, the engine started smoking like a freight train and when I slowed to investigate, the engine stopped running. Immediately restarted and you could smell raw oil. Shut off, opened oil tank compartment and tank was laying on its side. Bracket had broken loose and tank fell. I immediately pulled the tank out, checked for spills (none), checked secondary reserve tank (full) and restarted engine. It smoked badly for a while, then cleared up.

Now for the problem created.....I started trolling at 4 knots, the engine would start sputtering and cut off. Primer bulb would be flat. Pump, restart and troll for a while and same thing. We finally decided to stop and bottom fish and when trying to restart after drift, the engine would not start unless we constantly pumped the primer bulb and engine would sputter and nearly die.
Headed back in at WOT with no problems (25 miles) until the no wake area, then engine started sputtering and died. Finally got to the loading area.
I have a service manual and have tried to figure what is wrong, but manual doesn't help much except in offering a good description of the oil circuit.

Does anyone have any ideas on where I need to approach this issue and why the fuel circuit has been affected? Thanks in advance.

Re: Oil Injection Mishap

It sounds like you have an airleak in your gasoline line. The antisiphon valve in the gas tank could also be bad.
