Oil injection needle valve adjustment. 1998 Evinrude 115hp

I need to know where to set the oil injection needle valves on the throttle plate. I wrote down the turns out but between the two they didn't match so I was hoping someone could give me a good starting point.

On the left bank I ended up with 6.75 out on the top and 7.125 out on the bottom.

I just realized it's the idle mix adjustments. The lines were flooded with premix oil so I got confused. It looks like the previous owner/moron hooked up the fuel/oil lines wrong. No wonder the cases are flooded with oil and it won't start. Still could use a starting point for the idles at sea level.

Normally start 5 1/2 turns out. They have to be adjusted with the boat in the water, in fwd gear and idleing.

So I'm looking for highest idle then turn the screw out ?? of a turn?

1/2-3/4 turn depending on the shape of the mtr.

I think if this is a 60 degree engine, which I will bet on. Then the turns out start at 3 or 5. I would recommend you start with 5 and see how the engine reacts in the water at the depth the engine is usually in the water. Adjust as necessary to move just the throttle plates and for the engine to turn up and then back down with no hesitation or die out.

The oil is in the carbs because the boat has sat and the engine oil has bled back into the carbs.

well I have a 1995 60 degree 115 and a 1997 60 degree 115.... the carb idle adjustment were night and day!!!

I had an issue because I bought a third set of carbs and manifolds for one of my motors.. while I had them in hand at work i rebuilt them. and then when i came to do the rebuild of my carbs on my 1995 115 hp on the boat.... I just removed the 1995 set and installed the 1997 rebuilt set, for quickness of the job.. but the motor wouldnt start!! LUCKILY i have a 1997 and a 1995 factory manual

I think one was about 7 turns and the other was about 3 turns!!!.

soooo you really need the manual!!!!!!!!!!!!

i just read the 1995 manual( that i have at home) ( 1997 manual i leave at work) and it says the idle mixture needle is seated then turned out 3 turns to start with.


so the 1997 motor was MORE turns... thinking the 1998 would be SIMILAR....but i start with at least 6 turns out from seated on a 1998 motor
