I have a 1995 Mercury Tracker 40hp 4 cylinder. The oil injector/pump is not functioning. Is it possible to remove the oil injection system and run pre-mix instead of the oil injection without hurting the motor. If pre-mix is a option what would be the best mix ratio to run. Thanks

Re: Oil Injection Question

Forgot to ask. If removing oil injection is possible, what is the best way to go about doing it correctly.

Re: Oil Injection Question

It shouldn't be a big deal. On a V6, when you remove the oil pump, you have to put in a block off plug, which has an appendage on it specifically to keep the end bushing in the block so it doesn't come loose and fall into the crankcase. Judging from the parts picture, yours doesn't have that bushing.

With that caveat, take off the pump, tank, and oil alert electrics (module) and fashion a gasketed cap to cover the oil pump hole in the crancase.

Mix yer oil in the gas at 50:1, and yer good to go. No, Amzoil at 100:1 will not work. (for long)

If you do a lot of idling, you might want to go to a synthetic, like Pennzoil.

If your main mode of operation is slow speed trolling, you might want to fix the oil pump so you aren't changing plugs all the time.

hope it helps

Re: Oil Injection Question

Just curious, how did you determine that the injection wasn't working before your engine seized ??
