I have a 2001 Mercury 150 XR6(carbs) and just wondered the price I might expect a mechanic to charge to remove the oil injection system. Thanks

Parts, including labels about 20 - 30 bucks. Should be about a 1 hour job.

It isn't hard. You can do it with a 15 buck quarter drive socket set, pliers, n screwdriver in a coupla hours.

hope it helps

Re: Oil injection removal cost for a mechanic

Thanks John. Although the motor is a 2001, it has very few hours for a boat 8 or 9 years old. I start out the day and there is no alternating warning buzzer. I take a trip down the lake and idle....still no warning. Turn off motor and fish a while and when I start up to move to another location, the buzzer starts, which by the way can't be heard while the engine is running unless I have my ear next to the throttle. My boat has two tanks and one I have premix and the other is just gas. I've burped the engine oil tank and checked for kinked hoses. As much good that I've heard about the injection system I think it will be easier for me to just mix it myself. Thanks again, I appreciate the time you took to answer my question. JP

Unless you've been grossly overheated, there probably ain't much wrong with the oil injection.

Get the factory manual for it and go through the checkout on the oil system. Actually fairly easy, you'll learn a lot.

If you have questions, they will get answered here pretty quickly.

The oil injection has been denigraded a bunch all over the net, but I figure it's probably an order of magnitude more reliable than my feeble memory.

It's pretty easy to hook up a loud horn to it. There's a harness wire for it in your dashboard.

hope it helps

One of the pm items I do in the spring is dump the oil out of the boat tank into a clean pail, then through a paint filter back into the tank. One time, (with merc oul) it had a little snot in it. Now I use PennZoil full synth.

I suspect a bit of water got into it and formed the gummy fouling.

Inspect the pickup screen while yer at it.

Hope it helps
