This isnt a motor specific question so I am posting here, does an engine run better/worse on a specific brand of oil on an oil injected motor? And second does an oil injected motor just run on 2 cycle oil, like johnson/evinrude oil? Whats the best kind? Thank you.

Re: Oil Injection

Some people get pretty crazy with the oil, as long as it is TCW 3 it is fine.

I use Valvoline because that is what the gas station I go to has.

There is a difference between outboard 2 cycle and 2 cycle oil like for a chain saw or weed whacker, they tend to run alot hotter than an outboard so the oil is different so make sure you get outboard oil.

Yes they both use the same oil, one is just mixxed in the tank.

Any major brand should be fine and they are all pretty much the same, I personally think the more expensive oil is just more expensive.

Re: Oil Injection

i've been using walmart's super tech for 10 years no problems. as long as the oil is rated TC-W3 it is fine. the synthetic TC-W3 is also fine, less smoke.

Re: Oil Injection

I use the merc oil in my outboard as cheaper stuff is not closely available to me and i've not had any problems ever. Though more expensive, the gas station i go to only has shell oil and i've ran into problems with it in snowmobiles. As said any of the oils will work which are rated properly. It's more or less personal pref these days and whats readily available for you.

Re: Oil Injection

Forty, There are two kinds of Oil injection. The standard EFI or carb'd motors mix 2 cycle oil with the gasoline, before it enters the carbs or throttle bodies. On these motors standard TCW-III rated 2 cycle oil is sufficient. Some folks use name brand oils, some generic oil.

There is a newer type of motor with Direct Fuel Injection (DFI). Merc has the Optimax line and J/E have the E-TEC line. Other manufacturers have their own brand. In the DFI motors oil is injected into the air stream near the throttle bodies. This oil travels thru the crankcase and mixes with the gasoline in the combustion chamber, where the gasoline has been injected under high air or fuel pressure. These DFI motors sometimes require special DFI oil.
