Oil Injection

I just recently acquired a 1990 90hp mercury outboard. I was told that the system was not working properly so I went to mixing the oil and gas in the tank.
I have performed searches on this forum but I am still concerned. I want to just bypass the pump. Can this be done safely without removing the pump. I did read somewhere that this could be done and keep oil circulating in the pump so that it does not break and cause problems with the engine. Someone told me that the 90 pump did not need to be oiled inorder to avoid damage. Does anyone know if this is true with this engine and if not, what is the proceedure for having oil circulate in the pump?

Thanks in advance for the advice.

Re: Oil Injection

Not sure why you want the whole oil pump set up there while mixing. I know there are kits there to replace the whole setup. There may be one from Iboats, maybe one of these guys can chime in.
