I have a 1998 75 HP Mariner. I have just had a new power installed. The mechanic suggests removing the oil injection and for me to mix gas and oil. He said it is better and safer. What do you think? Thank you

Re: Oil injection

Well it would be a little bit safer, assuming that you never make any mistakes with the mixing. I think the probability of making an error preparing premix is higher than the probability of the oil injection system failing.

Better? I don't think so. It sure is a lot easier to keep oil in the tank than to try for a correct mix every time you add gas.

I like the options available for left over gas at the end of the season when there is no oil mixed in it. I have little interest in storing mixed fuel for extended periods. I would much rather drain it and burn it in one of my 4 stroke powered vehicles.

Bottom line? Go with the injection system.

For a '98 motor, I'd agree. Keep the injection.

Plus one. My 2002 90 horse Merc is over-oiling and my mechanic wants to do the same thing. After wise counsel and deliberation I've decided to have him perform surgery rather than amputation.
