I am new to the oil injection. I bought a used 40 hp and am leery of heading out to the lake with it. If I wanted to mix my own gas for a while, What would be the best procedure to disconnect the oil supply temporarily? Thanks, Homeytx@aol.com

Re: Oil injection

homeytx

If you are concerned about the injection system not operating properly at first, just mix a 50-1 oil mix in the fuel tank for your first outing and verify that oil is being used from the injection reservoir. This would be the same procedure as breaking in a new motor. Once you verify that the system is working, discontinue the pre-mixing. Make some marks on the outside of the reservoir so that you can moniter oil consumption as you go. No need to disconnect the oil supply, unless you plan on permanantly pre-mixing yourself.

(If you have a built-in fuel tank on your boat, you may want to hook up a 6 Gal portable tank and mix the initial 50-1 mix in there. That way you don't have 20 Gal of pre-mixed fuel to get rid of if you decide to use the injection system.)
