I just purchased a 1995 40hp Evinrude with oil injection. I noticed there were some posts about problems in the past with this system. Does anyone know if I should be concerned about this model & year?

I already winterized it but the exhaust looked normal when I ran it on the muffler.

Thanks

Old Salt

Re: Oil injection

They had a few problems when the system first came out back in the 80s. Anything new does. They corrected them quickly and the vast majority of stories you hear these days are just that. Stories. The VRO is a favorite scapegoat for all major failures, but it is rarely the cause in reality. Enjoy your boat with confidence.

I have a '96 175 'rude with VRO. I have had only minor issues with that motor (a few leaks from lack of use by previous owner). I think most of the 'rude problems are with the FICHT system.

I also have read a lot of posts blaming the VRO for problems. Being a newer owner of a Evi 100, it also raised a flag. For my own peice of mind, when I purchased the boat, one of the things I did was clean and flush the fuel and oil tanks. As long as everything is clean and looked after, I can't see any problems arrising. Least of my worrys. Mine has been running great. ('91 XP100).
I am enjoying the boat so much, that I had to take it out the other night for a tour around the lake. Even though there has been rain mixed in with wet snow. When you can see your breath when your putting her in the water, people sort of look at you funny.
