merc. 165 (460 ford block) on an '87 sintgray.

noticed that Im leaking oil and I thought it was the valve cover. After replacing the valve cover gasket and siliconeing it down, im still leaking oil but even worse. Its leaking from the intake manifold somewhere. Has anyone heard of this? I know the intake has a coolant passage through it but I have never heard of an oil passage.

If i have to replace the intake gasket, can I use a ford gasket or do I need a mercruiser gasket?

Thanks!

Any help appreciated!

It's a Ford head, not block. The block is aluminum and Mercruiser designed.

Its leaking from the intake manifold somewhere.

You are going to have to describe where it's leaking a little closer than that, can you post a picture that shows where it's leaking at?
There is no oil passage between the intake and the head. IF that is where you are seeing the oil, I would guess your valve cover is still leaking. Sillicone is not what you should have used on the valve cover gasket.

I can't think of much up there that could leak oil except for the valve cover gasket, the breather hose, and the oil filler cap. Have you checked these? It could be blowby coming from the vent hose. My engine does this, and it collects on the edges of the cover.

Re: Oil Leak from Intake Manifold.

I had a leak in that area thast I just fixed this weekend.

Whoever did the work on the engine left 4 things (that I've found so far) loose.

Distributor.
Oil Drain Plug
Valve covers
And the one you might find is the oil pressure sensor located just behind the intake manifold on mine.

And no, I wouldn't have used silicone on your valve covers. I went and bought those nice gaskets with the metal in them to keep them the right shape and thickness. Leak gone.
