Re: Oil leak from top of motor

The color of it appears like a fuel mix leak to me.It may just be two cycle oil residual dripping from the bottom of intake silencer and running down. However I recommend inspect all fuel line connections from the engine fitting to the fuel pump and up to each carburetor inlet. Also inspect the carbs themselves for any eveidence of leaky gaskets. You can try and pump up the fuel primer bulb until completely firm or until the line pressure exposes the leak. Not knowing the type of grease or lubricant you use or not ,it also looks to be in the same area as the upper bushing of the engine swivel bracket. The proper grease is not noted for running out like the pics show ,but then without further info on the type of grease/lubricant used to grease bushings,,I can't be sure.

Is there any odor of gasoline in this dribble?

It looks the same as the oil used in the fuel. I have not noticed a fuel smell.

I will try the pump up test on the primer bulb.

Thanks for the help.

10/4 Tbonus.Let us know what you find.

Also, there's a hose at the bottom of the intake silencer.Insure that it is connected securely.

ob - You 'da Man. I brought the boat home from off-site storage this afternoon in preparation for a day on the water tomorrow.

I had searched online to figure out what an intake silencer was. When I got her home and popped the hood, sure enough, there was a small black hose resting on the bottom. It was easy to see where it was supposed to go. When I picked it up, it had the same fuel oil mixture on it.

I'll keep you posted after we take her out in the morning.

Thanks again. :)

Re: Oil leak from top of motor

Just back from about 3 miles offshore and all over Sarasota Bay. We ran her off and on from about 9:30 this morning to about 3:00 this afternoon. The water is about 68 and the fish are biting. Hooked into some ladyfish this morning and some sheephead in the afternoon. Nothing offshore.

About the oil leak - not a drop of oil on the backend. Clean and dry.

Thanks again for your suggestion and willingness to help.
