Hi,
I have an oil leak from my tohatsu, see attachement.
DSCN1284.jpg
It seems like it comes from the bolt at the same level as the top of the gear oil screw.
Any idea of what it could be?
Thanks in advance.

Is the leaking oil, clear or dark and smelly ?

If oil is leaking from that bolt it could be:

A gear oil leak seeping at that point(not very likely).

Unburned premix residue draining down the inside of the motor leg just like it is supposed to do.

What is unusual is that anything would leak from that bolt at all. In theory any kind of oil would drain out somewhere else.

Thanks for the answers.
Well the oil is dark, smelly, I do not dare to say. I will check.
In fact it might be that the oil is leaking from the little hole on the above left of the bolt on the picture. I couldn't see that it was leaking form there but it might do and the bolt is just "collecting" it.
If it is unburned oil, should it be that much? I mean it is more that a few drops even tough not pouring down either.

If indeed you have a 2-stroke (not available in that size in North America for years), then, yes, it is not an unusual amount of unburned residue -- and it would smell bad/burnt. It is a little odd to see it come from near the water drain holes of the exhaust housing, though. Typically that would be seen in the prop area. But if the motor is tilted a bit so the prop is a little high, that might do it.

On the other hand, if you have a 4-stroke, I do occasionally see that sort of accumulation caused by either overfilled crankcase, bad pan gasket, or a loose crankcase drain plug.

Thanks a lot for this quite reassuring answer. Yes it is a 2 stroke and they were banned only a few years ago in Europe :)
I just bought it second hand...
I'll check the smell to be on the safe side but it seems like I might have been worrying a bit too fast.:D

There's always a very small portion of unburned mixed gas/oil residue that is drained downwards through the leg, can find these residues in middle prop housing or small side lower leg holes, check your gas/oil ratio mixture to be 50:1 if residue is outting more on floor than it should.
