oil leak

I have a 2000 merc 5.0 there is a oil leak at the oil drain quick connect where the rubber drain hose is attached .I drained the oil ,cleaned the fitting ,replaced the o-ring and it still leaks. the fitting does not appear to be threaded in (no place to put a wrench on it ). before i go and try to manhandle it out and break it off can anybody tell me if it does unscrew from the oil pan.... thank you

yup it unscrews, save some headache and replace it with a drain plug. Then just pump your oil out the dipstick like most others.

thanks .. thats what i plan to do .just dont want to take the chance if it breaking off and having to pull the pan.

I've got this thing about pulling the oil out through the dipstick... you never get the bottom, and so don't remove anything that may have wound up there - let alone see it... maybe I'm just superstitious, but I like to see what comes out.

I used to think the same thing, but I just replaced the oil pan on my 1995 Ford 5.0. The was not a bit of sludge or debris in the old pan. This method has been in use for years and it seems to work. I'd prefer to pull a plug myself and was going to cobble together some plumbing to drain from the bottom while I had the engine out, but when I saw the condition of the oil pan I decided it was not necessary.
