we have a omc 4.3l king cobra and there is an oil leak(s). we cleaned it and found oil on the left side at the bottom when looking at the engine. the oil has been traced up past the bacf of the left head and there is a little amount og oil near the back of the right head. could in oil be coming from the intake mainfold or the oil thermostae or presure gauge.?

Cheers thanks in advance

Re: oil leak!!!!!!!

Could be coming from the valve cover gaskets (let's hope), head gaskets (not fun), intake manifild seal (not fun), distributor gasket (not bad), oil pressure sender/switch (piece of cake). Not aware of an oil thermostat, though.

Re: oil leak!!!!!!!

hello
an ancient chinese oil leak detection from wang fu.
carefully clean all the surfaces with acetone or other oil cutting solvent. plug off all valve cover breather hoses. start the engine with a good supply of water. run engine about 2000 RPM for a few minutes. sprinkle babypowder over any suspected leak area. it will show up. on a gray motor babypowder may not be nessasary.
