Oil leaking from lower unity intake in my 1988 Force 50 HP...

After I pulled my boat out of the water (few hours) I noticed oil on the ground below the motor. I traced it back up to the intake in the lower unit. The 2-stroke oil I mix with the gas is green. The gear oil I use is a blue tint. It was a little hard to tell what color the oil was but it appeared to be clean not unused gas/oil mix from exhaust. I also removed the drain screw and saw a milky mix. I just changed it before I went out. I was out for 3 hours or so at fairly slow speeds crabbing.

I just changed the impeller and thermostat when I first bought the boat. I bought it from a friend - it sat for a few years. The impeller looked fine but I put a new one in.

I am going to remove the lower unit this weekend and pressure test it to see where the leak is.

Is the drive shaft seal just below the water pump a potential leaking point? and is it fairly easy to change?

You need to check the drive shaft seal below the water pump, the prop shaft seal behind the prop, the seal on the shift pivot pin, and the seal where the shift rod enters the gear case. one or more could be bad.

Can I change the shaft seal and shift rod seal by removing the lower unit and working from the top of the lower unit?

Once I take the lower unit down - can I pull the drive shaft out of the lower unit?
