OK I have a Pic that shows Once I put My motor in a position as if I was gonna run it a day later I noticed Oil on the cavitation Plate which seems as if it Leaked Fron the screen which I assume is the water intake.

Could someone Clue me in on to how this could happen?
what do I need to look for going wrong?
where could the oil be coming from?

Lower unit oil is the only oil in a boat that looks like that, That I am aware of

Notice the oil sitting on the cavitation plate

What's the oil in the LU look like? Any water in it or signs of problems in it?

No problem J.R. What you have there is unburned 2-cycle oil. It is perfectly normal and there is nothing to worry about. What happens is that when you run your motor at low RPM's (such as when you are getting ready to take your boat out of the water) not all the 2-cycle oil gets burned off with the fuel. What is left gets trapped in the exhaust and it will slowly run out. That is why you notice it particularly after you have adjusted the motor to get it ready to take it out the next day. I try to put an old coffee can under my motor when I get back from the water so that the oil will not leave a spot on the floor.

If it makes you feel better, you can change the lower unit oil. Usually when your lower unit oil is leaking you don't really notice it because it normally leaks out when you are running the motor and you end up with water in the lower unit. So, you can change the lower unit oil and if you see no water in it, you know that you have nothing to worry about.

See my 64 post above. Mine was lower unit oil. It was leaking from the water impeller area. Tore into the lower unit and it appears the drive shaft seal was slinging oil out the top and it was coming out the area under the water pump plate. If you go into the lower unit, be careful with the bearing retainer. I broke mine tonight and am looking for a part. Mine is a 64 9.9 Evinrude. It is real easy to tell if it is unburned motor oil and gear oil. The smell is different. The unburned motor lube smells like exhaust. The lower unit oil smells like oil, no exhaust.

Good point. The smell of the oil is a good way to tell if you have a lower unit oil leak.
