Oil leaking out of lower unit?

1972 Johnson 25hp. Changed the water pump and impeller, rebuilt the carb, put in new wires and plugs and ran it in a trash can for several minutes. Ran fine for a motor that sat without running for 10+ years. Put it back in the garage and noticed the other day oil leaking onto floor. I smelled it and it doesn't necessarily smell like gas, just oil. Anyone have an ideas where it is coming from or what is causing the leak based on where the oil is dripping in the picture? If you can't tell from the picture, it is coming from that hole above the prop.

first two spots I would check would be the o-ring on your lower unit or your plugs screws make sure they should have a gasket of some sort behind them I'm right now getting ready to put together my 1974 Johnson 25 horse and I looked at the O ring on mine and I don't trust it so I'm going to put a bead of silicone on it just in case when I put it back together

From the looks of the first picture i think your missing the plug on your water intake. Part number 0300314.

Likely oil running down the inside of the exhaust housing.-------Unused oil from the mixture.-----Pressure test the gearcase if you are worried about a gear oil leak.

It's leaking out of the exhaust,so it is just exhaust gunk and nothing to worry about. That hole that it seems to come out is the where the cooling water intake filter goes into. You should be able to see the filter just above it. Just check to see if it is there and if not,put one in if you boat in weedy water or dirty water. If you boat in a very clean environment, don't bother.
