" 1972 Mercury 50" I have a small drip of oil coming from under the cowling. Is this pre-mix or do these engines have motor oil? Thanks

Motors of that vintage are pre mix. You likely have a small fuel leak in one of the carbs, fuel line or fuel pump. The gas evaporates leaving the oil behind.

Thanks for the response! One more question. Can the oil in the foot come up to the top of the motor or is it sealed seperate from the powerhead?

Re: Oil leaking?

The gearcase is a sealed unit. There is no "normal" way for gear oil to get to the powerhead.

Thanks Chris. I appreciate you taking the time to help! I believe it is just pre-mix from over priming the float bowles.
