Hi guys, Im sure this is posted somewhere here, I looked a few pages couldent locate, searched, No results??

So If there is a thread Someone could link it? AWESOME.. Ha Ha

But heres the question,

I have a 1962 28 HP Johnson,
and
74 40 HP johnson,

I ran the 74 at 50:1 last year all season with traditional Blue 2 stroke oil and regular fuel , On my 77 20' Harris Pontoon

The 28 Hp is new to me, Its going to be living on my Arkansas Traveler... But i was noticing, it has a mix ratio on the cover of 24:1 And to use SAE 30 oil......

Now, the 30 weight oil dosent supprise me, as my old (1974) snowmobiles, say the same thing, and i was told they used to use used engine oil in it when it was new (original owner)

So the real questions i guess are.....

Is 50:1 OK in both motors? or suggestions,

Is regular Gasoline OK??

And is Blue two stroke oil Better than the SAE 30?? the only plus I can think of in the SAE 30 is its super cheap.....

Thanks folks!!!!!!!!!!!!!

50/1 0n your 74 and 24/1 on your 62 is the correct mix. I would not vary from that. Use tcw-3 outboard oil for both. Best of luck. Rick.

Your welcome. And it is regular gas unless you can find ethanol free gas then use it. Rick.

When that '62 motor was made, 2 cycle oil wasn't very widely avail. So SAE-30 non-detergent motor oil was specified. TC-W oil is a bit better than SAE-30, as it leaves less deposits. Both will work.

Yeah, Ill just stick with the new two stroke oil... Not that i have anything against the old motor oil, But im sure the two stroke stuff has more lubricating property's along with cleaner....

Thanks for the input guys, as I've only been into these old motors for say two years, so its new to me... And much different then the cars and trucks i work on all day....
