This will be my first Mercury Optimax. It is a 2012 Optimax 150. After the break in period will a Merc dealer set the oil mixture ratio? What I am asking is like the E-Tech it can be set to the leanest mixture if you use the xd100. Does Merc. have something similar?

Re: Oil Mixture Setting

Guys,
I'm not asking to kick a hornets nest, I just don't know. If I am completely ignorant, please educate me on this.

Re: Oil Mixture Setting

Mercury does not have an programmable oil usage setting, only for breakin.

E-TEC has both a break-in setting and an optional reduced-oil-usage setting if you use their premium synthetic oil only. It comes from the factory set for any TC-W3 oil.

Suggest you refer to your manual or talk to the dealer where you bought the motor. Best not to run any motor too lean or fiddle around with high fuel:eek:il ratios. Oil is inexpensive compared to what can happen if you try to skimp on oil..

Re: Oil Mixture Setting

The oil mix is set at the factory and should not need any adjustment. The oil pumps on some of the older Mercs do have an adjustment on them but I am not even sure the new motors do, as most of them are 4 stroke motors and should not need a mix as the old motors do. Best to check with your local dealer that sold you the motor. JMO
