Oil mixtures

I recently purchased a 1975 Johnson SeaHorse, 115 hp, from a junkyard. I had some work done on it, but I cannot find anyone to tell me the correct fuel mixture. I've run it at 50:1, but my plugs are fouling out. Do I need to run it with less oil mixture, or is what I am doing appropriate for that older model? I would appreciate any information that I could receive.

Re: Oil mixtures

50:1 is the correct mix, BMasters.

What plugs are you using, and at what gap?

Re: Oil mixtures

Hello JB
I had a man put me a used lower unit on and I had him to tune up the motor at the same time, and he put in Champion QL77JC4, and they're gapped at 30. Is there a better plug that you would recommend, or perhaps a different gap setting?

bmasters8

Re: Oil mixtures

Champion is the ONLY plug recommended for that engine. Other brands do not work well in OMC's, for some reason. The plug # is correct.

If you idle alot, you can gap them at .040".

Make sure the oil you use is TCW-3 rated.
