OIL ON PLUGS

Hello, I have a 1990 rude 225 with high hrs, The compreshion is getting low about 88 lbs is avrage,it runs ok but tends to foul puugs. I am running champ, QUl77V and they are staying wet w/ oil. I wanted to know if anboby knows a little hotter plug I can try without hurting anything.<br /><br /> Thanks Boatman1959

I agree with brad.Your going to need to do alittle work on the powerhead pretty soon.<br /><br />My advice:Do it before it get's so bad something else goes.<br />My 1991 Evinrude 200 is around 127-134<br /><br />Your running pretty low for a 225.<br /><br />tom

When did you last decarb the engine? Sounds like rings sticking possibly. It may be a quick $8.00 fix or time to spend the big money, either way it's worth a try.

Use the recommended QL77JC4 sparkplugs gapped at .030".<br /><br />Because the engine has a lot of time on it, remove the main jets and replace them with new. Gasoline flowing thru them will wear the holes larger, resulting in a richer, less powerful condition. You can check the diameter wear by using the appropriate number drill as a guide. Most of the time an engine with about 1000 hours will have the jets worn about .006" too large.<br /><br />Like was mentioned in a previous post, decarbon the motor. If it hasn't been done lately, use 2 or 3 cans over a period of time. It takes a bit to remove baked on carbon.
