I have a 12559523 oil pan. Wondering if the 12557229 pan will work as a a replacement. They look very similar, but wanted to verify before making the drive. Thanks for any help.

12559523 is a cast ali oil pan for a V6 Gen+ engine (late 1996 to 2007). 12557229 is also a cast ali oil pan for the same engine. One may have superseded the other.

Gm designers are really amazing. When we has steel timing covers and steel pans we never had problems. Now with plastic timing covers cracking and aluminum pans leaking we have issues. All this to try and save money by making parts overseas and not in the United States

I think you'll find GM have been using foundaries in Mexico since the 50's.. Although not strictly 'overseas', still not IN the US.

The problem is GM let go of the tiller years ago and too many different parts made in too many different countries without anyone checking to see if they all work together

Got the 229 pan today and sat it on the block. Bolt holes to the block are a perfect match. 229 pan is missing the two lower bolt holes at the front on each side.. Looks like it will be fine.
