How hard to change out yourself? I have read you have to lift motor to get enough clearance. I have a leak behind my timing gear. Pretty steady drip when running. I am guessing it is the oil pan gasket. Could it be something else?

Re: Oil Pan Gasket

More likely it would be the front seal in the timing cover. Would need to remove the crank pulley and balancer and then the cover. If the crank has a groove worn into it from the old seal you may need to put a micro sleeve on the crank.
See part #15 in the diagram.

Changing the pan gasket is best done by removing the engine and putting the engine on a stand upside down. That way you can get everything cleaned and sealed correctly. It's kind of hard to get under there to do a good job of it with the engine in the boat.
