Oil pan windage tray question

I have a 1979 5.7 MerCruiser engine. I am replacing a damaged oil pan. The dip stick goes through the block so I believe the pan is not marine specific...correct? The new pan has the windage tray built into the pan, the old pan had the windage tray bolted to the bearing caps. If I use the pan with the built in windage tray the mounting bolts ( for the old tray) hit the windage tray in the new pan. Any issue with just changing those bolts so all fits well? I'm sure one of you guys has ran into this before. I just want to be sure I'm not building myself future issues. The new cap bolts will be torqued to spec of course.

Thanks

Gerry

Re: Oil pan windage tray question

I'm not real familiar with chevy engines but it sounds like good plan, just be sure the oil pickup has proper clearance.

Double check the pans capacity and remove the windage tray from the new pan.The marine version has a hole in the windage tray for the dip stick tube.
