Oil Pressure Sender ?

I have a Volvo AQ171a that was rebuilt and I am slowly working through small issues since the engine sat for 6 years. I ran the engine for about 4 seconds a couple of times, since I am waiting for a fuel pump, and I am not getting any reading on the oil gauge. I grounding out the sending wire from the gauge and it maxed out to 80psi. When it is connected to the oil pressure sender I get nothing the gauge never moves even when the keys is turned to on. Does this sound like an issue with the gauge? I also ran a new wire from the gauge directly to the oil pressure sender.
