I was working on rebuilding my boat and snapped the piece in the picture clean off the top of the engine from where the othe picture shows, all i can find on what it is, is that its an oil pressure switch/ sensor but when i look at pictures it shows one on top of the engine and one where the oil filter is, I have one there too, can anyone tell me what it is exactly? do I have to have it? If so I got to redrill a new hole since the other one is still threaded in

The oil sender is usually mounted to the rear of the dist, and either a fuel pump pressure switch or a "no oil pressure alarm switch" is by the oil filter.

Also we would need to know your engine model & year or serial number to help locate the correct parts.

Unfortunately your picture didn't show up on our end due to the iboats forum site is still having some issues since doing a software change.

yea so it is a hollow in it and i would be able to get something like an extractor in but if it would normally need to be removed through a wrench would an extractor work

yes it is by the dist, is it a universal sender because i cant find one for my exact vehicle but I found this one: http://www.amazon.com/Sunpro-CP7577...r=8-7&keywords=oil+sender+unit#productDetails the only difference is mine had a 90 degree connector on it will the universal one work? does this sensor go straight to the dash/cluster gauge or does it have some run into the engine?

It is a 350 with a mercruiser alpha one, the boat is a 1996 Maxum, the engine was suppose to be original but upon tear down I have found that it was already rebuilt and the only thing I could find with the serial numbers is that it is between mid 80's to 94

The question remains, did you break it off and leave the broken piece in the block? If so, get the correct size drill and tap for 1/8th pipe thread. coat drill bit with grease and go slowly, cleaning chips and re-greaseing . Use grease on the tap to clear the threads in the block, again slowly cleaning the tap and re-greaseing it

If it's still in the block, yes, it is hollow. No drilling necessary. Simply install the correct size EZ out. When you tighten the EZ out, it bites the soft brass and out she comes! Done it several times, no sweat.
