What are some causes of high oil pressure? My gauge is reading anywhere from 60-80psi at full throttle.

Re: Oil Pressure

that must take a long time to fill :)
And a whole lot longer to drain

Get a mechanical gauge and verify that it's an actual oil pressure problem and not a gauge/sender/wiring problem.

Re: Oil Pressure

Seems not that unusual to me. My '96 4.3L will will show right at 70 psi at 2-3K RPM when it is cold. After cruising for 5-8 minutes the oil pressure will drop to the high 50s at the same RPM as the engine fully warms up. I get about 30-40 psi at idle (with some fluctuations).

30w Delo 400 and Volvo oil filter, both changed yearly.

Just my two bits,

Re: Oil Pressure

Im thinkin that it might be a faulty gauge. My volt gauge will read nothing until I tap it and then it goes right to 12 volts...Same with my trim gauge???

Re: Oil Pressure

Your volt gauge doesn't tell oil pressure. Like I said, get a mechanical gauge and test it before just throwing parts at it and hoping you happen onto the problem.
