So I fired up both the new engines on the ground today....4.3 vortec (1998)...
After dialing in for a bit I was very pleased...... Only one question I have is that one engine has about 40 plus psi at idle,
and the other is at 30 psi at idle....once revved up it goes right up to 40 or more... is this something to be concerned about? I called the manufacturer and he said there is quite a fluctuation from engine to engine and this was not an issue....
What do you guys think?

Yeah good to go 30 at idle is great. 10 psi per 1000 rpm when it's hot and the engine will live a long timev

Before you get too worried about oil pressure, you should verify both gages with a mechanical gage. Electric gages are frequently wrong.

After you verify the oil pressure, you can decide if you even have a problem other than inaccurate gages.

I used the same gauge (mechanical) on both motors...

Both engines have the same viscosity oil in them?

Even if they have the same, the pressure is totally acceptable.

An engine with 5 - 10 psi at idle will sound perfectly normal. As long as the engine shows normal oil pressure at higher rpm, idle oil pressure above 5 psi would be fine but probably a sign work would be needed in the future. When lifters begin to "tick" at idle, that's the time to start worrying.

a small block chevy (which is basically what yours is in terms of design) only needs about 7 psi at idle. that is cutting it too close for me but 20 is plenty at idle and 10 psi for every 1000 RPM is all that is required

Now that you know the gages are accurate, you have nothing to worry about.
