Re: Oil PSI gage

I wouldn't fret too much. I had mine out the other day and pressure went to the 70's at first. Once things warmed up it dropped down to around 45 or 50. I'm running 25 40 wt oil and the water temp is up to 45- 46. Ice just left the lake two or three weeks ago. Just go easy till it warms up good.

What wt? Sorry what weight oil is what that meant. New oil, Cold water and high rev's 80's a bit high, but not to worry, your gauge is electric, I assume. Watch it, if it gets higher, test your gauge, or hook a mechanical gauge to the engine to verify actual O/P.

Re: Oil PSI gage

I've had my 3.0 reach about 85psi with a 20W-50 in it. Last time I did that.

Re: Oil PSI gage

the water is about 70 i say and i drove it for a good hour and it stayed at 80 psi and my boat takes 5w-30. so if the water is warmer the gage will be lower the water gage stayed about 240

The water temp gauge stayed 240?? Yikes!....it should be more like 160...
What motor are we talking about here? Raw water or closed loop cooling?

you sure it calls for 5W-30..? Thats a new one too.....

Re: Oil PSI gage

If the motor was really running that warm then the 5W oil would be thin as water and should have lower than normal oil pressure..

I hope its just a bad ground to the gauges and they are both incorrect.
Something is going on there...

Re: Oil PSI gage

This has 'morphed' into two potential problems...!

I know that my engines won't continue for very long, at that temperature.

Got to be a dirty ground...somewhere behind the guages?

I would start checking the main ground that feeds the dash and the connections on the back of the gauges.
You could run a temporary ground direct from the battery to test.

The temp gauge would be my first concern..hopefully the motor is not running at 240.

Don would know but i bet that motor calls for straight 30 weight oil too.

Re: Oil PSI gage

surely there's an electrical problem with the gauges... maybe the wrong set of wires hooked up to the wrong place or something? do you have any idea how hot the engine would really have to be to be generating 240 degree water temps?

I just looked at the boat and the water temp was about 180 to 200 and the oil was at 80 psi for sure

Did you try the ground from the battery to the dash? Or at least get a good ground to the temp gauge.
I would not keep running it until you figure out the problem..
