Rodbolt: My new to me, 2002 Yamaha 250hp Ox66 runs like a charm. She is on her 3rd year of service and now has ~160hours. I bought her with 101 hours and I know it was dealer maintained. (for the little that's worth with the dealers I know).

Just recently, I confirmed my suspicion that it is over-oiling. I ran 83 gallons thru her on a long trip and needed nearly 2.25 gallons of Oil to refill the tank. That's a ratio of 38:1 . (note 95% of the driving was at 4200-4300RPM's)

I guess it's time to adjust the oil pump so that I don't toast my O2 sensor and cause over carbonization. (I use Ringfree all the time though).

Can you please give me the walk through on how to adjust the pump?? What should the gap be between the cam and stop pin at Idle?

As always, your help is much appreciated !!

Re: Oil Pump Adjustment on an Ox66 250hp

hello
the easist way is to remove the lower two throttle links. and keep the lower throttle plates held shut. the distance between the oil pump arm and the stopper needs to be about .004" to .010". on most of those motors to achieve it I have to cut about five threads off the oil control arm. check the plastic oil connecter for cracks while your there.

Rodbolt: So if I understand correctly, I would be adjusting the oil pump rod at WOT, not idle. Correct?

John

I recently performed this check while replacing the plastic connectors. I would recommend buying new ones before verifying the adjustment as one of mine broke during removal. They are cheap----
And, I second the info about the rod length. Mine are adjusted to the minimum and they still over oil..... looks like I will need to trim the control arm to get the proper adjustment.
Nice boat ---- is that a shot in CT?

you set the oil control rod with the throttles plates closed. there are two methods of closing the throttle plates. one is to back off the throttle idle screw and loosen the throttle links and the second is to unclip the lower two throttles. try to get it less than .010" from the stopper pin to the pump arm by adjusting the white clip at the pump. with the throttle plate fully closed not just at the idle position.
