I am in the process of installing a new long block. Its a 1995 4.3 vortec with the steel oil pan. The new longblock came with a new oil pump, Melling M155 but not a new oil pickup / screen. Some say to reuse the old one but the mechanic says not to it may come out at a later time. Does anyone know what the correct part number is for this pickup? I have tried the Auto parts store using the same year engine and so far 3 out of 3 are the wrong ones. They are longer and with a different bend pattern that hits the oil pan. Suggestions? thanks

Re: oil pump pickup

Can you not tack weld the pickup in if you're worried about it falling out?

Mine was a press fit but also had a clamp to prevent it from coming out.

If anyone else needs to know its Melling part number 213S. That is for the 4.3 steel pan.
