I have a 4 cylinder, 120 horse mercruiser. It has sat for years and I have had to do a lot of work to it. I am ready to fire it up and would like to know how to tell if the oil pump is pumping. I was also wondering where the temperature sensoe is on the motor

Re: oil pump

if the lifters arnt clattering while its running ya got oil pressure. the oil sending unit is below the tappet cover aft of the distributor. the temp sender is on the t-stat housing adapter just below the t-stat. are the gauges still hooked up? you can test them before light off to see if the gauges and circuits are functioning.

Re: oil pump

The gauges all appear to work except the temp. What is the t stat? I have gotten the lower unit in a 40 gallon drum, but if it is not drawing water I do not want to overheat it. Also do you know where the exhaust water comes out at?
