I discovered a persistent oil sensor alarm after I let the oil get low on my 1986 Mariner 75hp with oil injection and resevoir.
After refilling the resevoir, the alarm would not go off so I researched and subsequently suspected I had a defective sensor. Ohm test confirmed problem.
I cut the resevoir side open and removed the float and magnet after seeing that is was indeed separate from the float.
I have reattached the magnet to the float using hi-temp RTV gasket and sealed the 'flap' I cut in the side of the tank with similar gasket material, a 'patch' to hold the gasket material in place and a few stainless steel screws.
My worry is that the screws may get hot and melt the surrounding plastic. Is there significant heat along side the plastic resevoir?
