Are you raising or lowering the drive when the oil sheen appears? Stop in the water without adjusting your drive. If no oil, raise and then lower your drive and check for oil on the water again. If the raising and lowering is what's causing the oil, you probably have a leaking trim cylinder. Does the oil in your tilt/trim motor look milky?

Solve this problem as fast as you can and watch where you go until then. That sheen in and of itself is enough to get you a big fine around here...

This happened to me once. It turned out to be a leaking trim line (hose).

I guess I am part of a crowded club.My cylinder was leaking last season .Hardly amounted to anything the entire season but that tranny fluid really leaves a sheen on the water.I kept a spray bottle of bio-cleaner in the boat to give a spray onto the water and it vanishes.Charlie

Do you see it before or after you start the motor?

Mine leaked when at rest.A tiny drop every 5-10 minutes.Cylinder had to be resealed. You had to be lucky to be looking at the cylinder under water when the drop came out.It was like a rainbow burst on the water surface.Did this for the whole season and barely showed a loss in trim fluid.Spray some fantastic on the surface of the water behind your boat. This will eliminate the sheen. Then grab a beer and have a seat and watch that area for the burst.Charlie

My cylinder also leaked, most of the time there was nothing in the water and then when you stepped aboard the sheen would show. Definetly trim fluid that creates a sheen like you described and not engine oil.
It can be compared to the sheen you have from petrol also.
Left mine on for a few weeks without solving the problem, but then I took it off and had it resealed.
Make sure the ram is free from anything that could rip the seal as the ram goes back and forth, this was happening to me where there was paint on the ram.

Same scenario as Crazy Charlie.
