Oil Tank Hose Leaking

I noticed recently that oil is leaking from around the primer bulb on my oil tank. The primer bulb has 2 metal clips on each side of the bulb. One clamp is on the hose and one on the bulb each clamping to a nipple on each of the bulb to keep everything connected. The bulb will rotate around the nipple on tank side and the apparent cause is the loose clamp on the bulb. This is where I've been seeing a very small leak. The obvious solution would be to get a hose clamp or one of those plastic crimp types and tighten up the connection. Before I do that, I thougth I might want to just replace the hose on the tank side because it is that old 1990s vinyl junk. The hose on the engine side is the good rubber stuff.

Now..finally the question.... The hose that I'd like to replace runs from the bulb into the oil tank and is only about 6 inches long before it goes into the tank. I'd like to know (without taking apart and finding out for myself) what type of connection is inside the tank or at the fitting. Is this something that is easily replaceable or am I going to run into something that I'll have to replace more than just the hose. Before I tank the oil pickup assembly off the tank to find out, I figured someone would be able to tell me what I'll run into.

Thanks!

I've already looked up the diagram but it itsn't real clear on how the hose connects to the tank. Are you saying there is a nipple under the oil pickup assembly that just slides on? Surely it fastens somehow. ??

if you look again at the diagram # 8 is a clamp. the hose slides on, and there is a clamp to hold it.

I looked at the diagram again. I now see what #8 is. The diagram really doesn't show what this clamp is really for. When I looked at it before, I hadn't blown up the picture so I didn't recognize that it was even a clamp. I guess for that reason, I skipped right over it.

By the way, will regular fuel hose work for this application? Like fuel hose bought at an automotive parts store?

Also, when I replace this piece of hose, will I need to disconnect the other end from the motor and pump a bunch of oil back through the hose to make sure no air got in the line?

Thanks for the help.

Re: Oil Tank Hose Leaking

I went to replace the section of hose coming out of the VRO tank and could find no way to get the hose out. I called 2 marine dealers. One parts guy said he didn't think it was meant to come out. He said that is what his mechanics told him. The other guy was a salesman and he said he didn't really know but he also did not think it was meant to come out. Has anyone actually taken one out? For now, I just replaced the existing metal snap clamp with a stainless hose clamp on the primer bulb. I think it will be ok but I'd really like to get that old vinyl hose out of there.

Oh..the one salesman said he'd make be a deal on a a new tank which included the assembly. I guess he has a bunch of them and doesn't get much call for them any more. (This is the 1.8 gallon tank - white with black top.)
