I went to get new gaskets for my oil tanks today and was told they no longer make the flat cork ones and that the o-rings type was the replacment. I got home only to find that the caps don't have enough threads to engae the tank more than a thread or two when I use the o-ring seals. Did Merc change the design of the oil tank when they wnet to the o-rings seals? do I need to buy a new oil thank?

What year and HP motor are we talking about?? A serial number would help, also.

Re: Oil tanks problem

The flat flap tank has been totally replaced by a round neck tank. And you can't get so much as that stupid gasket. The "fix" is to replace the complete tank. Unfortunately you won't be able to get the filler cap off with your motor hood on, you'll have to take it off. Fortunately you probably don't need to do that more than once or twice a year.

Otherwise keep it no more than half full, and don't trim the motor all the way up.

Willy,
It's the large bulk tank that I'm having problems with.
