oil temp??

Maybe a dumb question. My boat has all the normal gauges.

Tach
Water Temp
Voltmeter
Oil pressure
Fuel level
Speedo
Hourmeter

Was thinking of putting a oil temp gauge in, but don't seem to find any anywhere. If the water temp is 140, does that mean the water cooled oil cooler is working? Sorry, just wanted to be aware of my oil temp.

Also, wanted to install a trim gauge since I have no idea where the trim really is unless it's in the down all the way position

Thanks!

Raw water cooled marine engines run pretty cool, as you've noticed. Oil temps., typically, do not climb.

A trim guage MAY be possible but we have to know what you have.

Re: oil temp??

Sorry I am the person with th 1978 galaxie 22xl that you all have been very helpful with.

i was just inquiring about the oil temp, and the ability to install a trim gauge to know where my trim is. I know when it's all the way down, but the guy at the boat shop said these boats get real squirrely when u trim too far up. Figured a trim gauge would be good.

Have the i/o set up mercruiser 260

Thanks for all the help!!!

You can set up a signature with your setup so we will know what you have it's easy.

No to the oil temp, yes to a trim gauge and sender.

Ayuh,...

You could install an electric oil temp gauge,....
'course,.. You'll have to pull the motor, to pull the oil pan, to weld in a bung for the sender...
With oil Temp pretty much a Non-Issue with these,.... I wouldn't waste the effort....

As for your Trim Gauge,...
I don't know that the 1978s even Had them,+ retrofitting might be Impossible,...
Donno,.. Don't remember... Look in the Manual....

Re: oil temp??

I wouldn't bother with either one. You need to learn your boat and a trim gauge will only slow that process. Since the required drive angle changes constantly with differences in speed, load/load distribution, wind, and water conditions there is no "correct" trim that you could use the gauge and set.

Start with the drive trimmed all the way down. Once on plane, trim up until it is "right" for the situation. If you go too far and the boat gets "squirrely" then trim down a bit.
