I have a 1979 7.5hp Ted Williams. I put outboard 2 cycle oil in the gas and it starts up then dies. I it beacuse I am not using chainsaw oil? Doe that really make that big of a difference?

Re: Oil

Welcome to iboats. :)

It really makes a big difference because air cooled powerheeads run much hotter than water cooled ones and outboard oil might not provide adequate lubrication. But that's not the problem you're having. It's probably a carb or fuel pump in need of rebuilding, or a tank and line problem if you're using a remote tank. Could also be a clogged screen in the onboard gas tank.
