Got this 1942 Welin 16 1/2 foot riveted steel life boat a couple of weeks ago and this is as far as I've gotten. The hull is in good shape, nothing I can't repair. I got the motor running well (it's a 1910ish Kermath 8-10) now I could use some input and ideas for everything else. I live in northwest Oregon and it rains a lot here so a small cabin would be nice and maybe a small bunk for overnight trips. What say ye?

Yes very cool! The engine doesn't look as old as 1910 though. Could it really be that old?

Pull that old engine out and drop in a 400 horse 302 and it should scoot across the water pretty good!

What a super cool boat! Steel:cool:

OK, now what?

Just throwing horse shoes here but...

I'd probably be looking to pull that engine out and sealing/scraping/prepping the hull (inside and outside)?? Checking rivets and such too.

I'm thinking a cabin/bunkhouse sort of deal would make that 16 footer feel pretty crowded, eh?

What a great project:D

I saw a video on the Kermath website and I thought the the reigning Kermath guru said it was built around 1910, it was their number 2 engine.

It doesn't really matter how much HP you put in, displacement hulls don't go fast.

It used to have a small house on it but it was rotted pretty badly so off it came. I wish I could afford to has it sand blasted but I've been wearing out wire cups on a grinder getting it cleaned up. I disconnected the motor yesterday and slid it forward to get underneath it, no major problems so far. It's in pretty good shape for the year.
